The debating team of the Business School hosted the third round of the freshmen debating contest in Room 212 of Science & Research Building on the afternoon of October 9. After going through the first two rounds, the four debating teams in this round were obviously more experienced and better prepared. They engaged in a heated debate on the two topics of whether rich social resources should be used more for improving people’s livelihood or exploring the future and whether the retirement age should be raised in China today. In the debate, the first debater from the affirmative side centered on their own position and was supported by data to establish their own point of view. In the questioning session, the second debater from the negative side brought out the real-life issues of the times with sharp words, posing frequent challenges to the other side. After that, the negative side put forward its viewpoint from a practical point of view which was based on real-life examples.

After the contest, the judges regarded it as a high-quality competition, which showcased the students’ careful preparation for the competition. They also made summaries and suggestions according to the aspects where both sides had deficiencies.
